My lovely sorority sister from college fit her suitcase into my car for our trip away from Lexington for the night. We had been friends for years but it had been a while since we took an overnight trip together. It was a lovely warm summers day and we were on our way to Paris, kentucky to visit a new and beautiful hotel by invitation from the owners. I had heard about the new Thoroughbred Hotel on Main street in Paris from another girlfriend and contacted them about visiting and writing about them. Chris Poynter, one of the owners, replied to my email quickly and invited us to an event they were sponsoring for the Derby winner. We were thrilled to be invited and accepted instantly. I invited my sorority sister Beth Pennington to come with me since it’s not much fun to go away for the night by yourself. She was excited to b invited and we pilled into the my car and headed to Paris which is only a few minutes away from Lexington. We had been to Paris for lunch several times with our Thursday group of girlfriends which tries different places to eat but we had never stayed the night before so we were excited to find the roomy parking lot next to the lovely hotel. I had stayed in numerous hotels before and they all had limited parking which you often had to pay for so this nice free parking lot was a pleasant surprise. We pulled in and parked then walked into the hotel to get checked in. The front lobby was small but lovely decorated with dozens of jockey silks hanging from the ceiling.

Beautiful hotel!

Lots of jockey silks
The jockey silks were our first introduction to the horse theme that was everywhere throughout the beautiful renovated hotel. We were offered help with our luggage by the front desk person and she kindly helped with your our suitcases and other supplies, getting everything up to our wonderful room and we settled, relaxing after our long drive. I slipped downstairs later to meet with Chris Poynter for a tour of the hotel and to meet him. He was a wonderful host and told me where to come and when for the reception later that evening.

Reception area
We got dressed up a little and put on some horsey jewelry then headed down to the reception which wad just wonderful with delicious little finger foods, drinks and lots of speakers. We enjoyed hearing from everyone and then slipped back upstairs for a great nights sleep in our wonderful comfortable room. The hotel people including Chris were so friendly and helpful even helping us load our car up for our short trip back to Lexington. We enjoyed every minute of our wonderful stat in this beautiful and friendly hotel. If you are looking for place to spend the night in Paris, Kentucky check it out!
