BottleWise Duo Bag

Reviewed by Scott Clemens

Whenever I go wine touring abroad, I face the problem of bringing back wine on the plane. Packing wine in your carry-on is no longer an option, and I’ve had instances where a well-padded bottle broke inside my checked luggage, ruining clothes and electronic gadgets. I’ve tried bubble wrap with mixed results.

On my latest trip to Italy I packed the BottleWise Duo bag inside my luggage. It took up more space than I’d like, but in the end it did its job. The advertising claims the bag will protect up to two 750 ml bottles. It features two removable padded pouches, and inside each zippered pouch is a thick re-sealable liquid-tight plastic liner bag that will safeguard your luggage contents if a bottle ever breaks. I unsnapped the pouches from the tote and managed to fit two bottles per liner, for a total of four. Then I zipped the two pouches and placed them in my soft-sided duffle bag. The duffle bag itself gave absolutely no protection against rough treatment from baggage handlers, but the BottleWise Duo kept the wine from breaking, even without the extra layer of padding that the tote provides. So BottleWise Duo gets our travel-tested recommendation as a must-have travel accessory for the Epicurean Traveler.

Pricing for BottleWise Duo starts at ($48.95). It is available in three colors: Black, Bordeaux and Cork. For more information or to order, visit www.BottleWise.com. To order by phone, call 800-673-9770.
